Ex-NY Sen. Espada, Son Deny False Statement Charges

Law360, New York (January 25, 2012, 8:33 PM EST) -- Former New York state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. and his son pled not guilty Wednesday to new false statement charges in the suit accusing them of embezzling more than $500,000, including federal grant money, from Espada’s health care nonprofit, rigging a janitorial contract bid and falsifying tax returns.

The superseding indictment filed last week added two new charges of making false statements to federal agencies, bringing the total of claims in the indictment to 18, to which the father-and-son pair pled not guilty on all counts....
