Energy Co. Hit With Class Action Over Hidden Fees

Law360, Chicago (January 30, 2012, 2:58 PM EST) -- Electricity supplier Direct Energy Business LLC was zapped with a putative class action in Illinois state court on Friday accusing it of billing customers for charges and termination fees not clearly disclosed in their contracts.

Convenience store operator SRT Enterprises Inc. alleges that Direct Energy breached its contracts and violated the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act by first pummeling customers with hidden charges and then tacking on "excessive," undisclosed early termination fees when they cancel their contracts.
