BP Must Pay Some Halliburton Oil Spill Damages

Law360, New York (January 31, 2012, 4:08 PM EST) -- The Louisiana federal judge overseeing the Deepwater Horizon multidistrict litigation ruled Tuesday that BP PLC must indemnify Halliburton Energy Services Inc. for compensatory damages claims related to oil pollution from the Macondo well.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier ruled that Halliburton’s contract to perform cementing operations at the well required BP to cover third-party compensatory claims against Halliburton involving pollution that didn’t originate from Halliburton’s above-water equipment.
