'The Reader' Author Sued Weinstein Co. Over Film Profits

Law360, New York (February 1, 2012, 5:23 PM EST) -- The author of the bestselling novel “The Reader” sued The Weinstein Co. on Tuesday, claiming the studio failed to pay him millions in film profits he was allegedly owed under provisions in a production rights contract.

In a complaint filed in California court, Bernard Schlink and Swiss publishing house Diogenes Verlag SA claim Weinstein and unnamed defendants violated a 1998 film rights agreement by failing to pay Schlink up to 5 percent of the profits of “The Reader” film.
