Fraud Hurts US Efforts To Contract With Veterans: GAO

Law360, New York (February 7, 2012, 8:39 PM EST) -- Poor fraud controls hurt U.S. efforts to contract with companies owned by veterans and disabled veterans, with as much as $2.6 billion being diverted to ineligible companies each year, according to a U.S. Government Accountability Office report released Tuesday.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which sets aside more contracts for veterans than any other agency, had come under fire from the U.S. House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform, which asked for the GAO report to follow up on...
