Feds Worried Over Espada Atty's Conflicts Of Interest

Law360, Los Angeles (February 7, 2012, 9:18 PM EST) -- Federal prosecutors on Tuesday raised concerns over whether the lawyer for former New York state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr., who is accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from Soundview Healthcare Network, can provide impartial representation amid several conflicts of interest.

Prosecutors said in a letter sent to U.S. District Judge Frederic Block that Espada's attorney Susan Necheles — who worked as outside counsel for Soundview — has interacted with several government witnesses who may be called to testify at trial. Her interactions with potential witnesses risk...
