Software Co.'s Free Scans Overstate PC Threats: Suit

Law360, New York (February 8, 2012, 6:04 PM EST) -- Support.com Inc. on Tuesday became the target of a proposed class action that alleges the software maker tricks consumers into buying its products by overstating security threats to a user’s computer.

James Lagarde alleges in a complaint filed in California federal court that the company, using the Sammsoft brand name, also makes false claims about its Advanced Registry Optimizer program, which promises to make computers faster and safer, because the program doesn’t have ability to fix the problems it is supposed to.
