Judge Says Town Can't Target Illegal Immigration

Law360, New York (July 27, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania town violated the U.S. Constitution with laws passed to evict illegal immigrants, according to a federal judge, who issued an order on Thursday enjoining the town from enforcing the laws.

“Hazleton, in its zeal to control the presence of groups deemed undesirable, violated the rights of such people, as well as others within the community,” said Judge James Munley of the Middle District of Pennsylvania in a 206-page decision. “Since the United States Constitution protects even the disfavored, the ordinances cannot be enforced.”...
