JC Penney Tagged With Sales Scheme Class Action

Law360, New York (February 14, 2012, 3:55 PM EST) -- A J.C. Penney Corp. Inc. customer has accused the retail company of tricking her and hundreds of thousands of other shoppers by disguising products priced near market rates as deeply discounted sales items, according to a putative class action filed in California federal court last week.

Cynthia E. Spann said J.C. Penney listed inflated prices on store displays and advertisements it described as original prices, simply so it could fool customers into thinking they were getting good deals when that price was cut.
