DOJ, EU Give Go-Ahead To Google's $12.5B Motorola Tie-Up

Law360, New York (February 13, 2012, 6:46 PM EST) -- Google Inc.'s $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. was cleared Monday by both the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division and Europe's chief competition watchdog, resolving two regulatory hurdles that bring the blockbuster buyout closer to completion.

The DOJ included its investigation of Google's proposed acquisition of Motorola and its valuable mobile patent holdings as one of three the agency will close after having determined each of the deals posed no threat to competition.
