Insurers Must Defend MGA In Bratz Trade Secrets Suit

Law360, New York (February 16, 2012, 7:59 PM EST) -- Insurers Markel Corp. and Crum & Forster Specialty Insurance Co. have a duty to defend MGA Entertainment Inc. in its trade secrets battle with Mattel Inc. over the popular Bratz doll line, a California federal judge ruled Tuesday.

In an order granting summary judgment — of his own accord — to MGA, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter amended orders from earlier this year in which he denied summary judgment to Evanston Insurance Co., its parent company Markel Corp., its sister subsidiary Markel Underwriting Managers Inc....
