In-Sourcing Afghan Police Training Wasn't An Option: GAO

Law360, New York (February 23, 2012, 7:56 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense did not seriously consider using government personnel to completely replace contractors when taking control of Afghanistan’s police training program in 2009 because it didn’t have enough skilled people to do the job, according to a Thursday government report.

The Senate Armed Services Committee expressed concern about the lack of oversight on such a large and important contract — worth approximately $1 billion — and asked the U.S. Government Accountability Office to investigate whether it would be better to in-source that work...
