Deepwater Trial Delayed As Settlement Talks Heat Up

Law360, New Orleans (February 24, 2012, 12:00 AM EST) -- The federal judge in charge of multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on Sunday postponed trial in the case, which was to begin Monday, to allow BP PLC and lead lawyers for the plaintiffs to continue settlement negotiations. 

In a short order, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier moved the trial's start date to Monday, March 5.

BP and the plaintiffs' steering committee issued a joint statement upon release of the order saying discussions would continue.
