Contractor Dumped 9/11 Remains In Landfill, DOD Says

Law360, New York (February 29, 2012, 8:30 PM EST) -- The remains of some people killed in the 9/11 attacks were cremated and dumped in a landfill after being turned over to a medical waste contractor, the U.S. Department of Defense said Tuesday, leading to calls for further scrutiny of the military's handling of the dead.

Rep. Bill Owens, D-N.Y., said Wednesday that he was "disgusted and astonished" that the remains of the 9/11 dead were treated with "such recklessness and dishonor.”
