Mattel Targets MGA’s $310M Bratz Award In 9th Circ.

Law360, New York (March 1, 2012, 1:55 PM EST) -- Mattel Inc. on Monday asked the Ninth Circuit to toss a $310 million award for rival MGA Entertainment Inc. in their long-running battle over the rights to Bratz dolls, saying the statute of limitations should have barred MGA’s trade secret counterclaims.

In an appeals brief, Mattel told the circuit court that its rival should never have been able to bring trade secret counterclaims in Mattel's copyright suit because the statute of limitations had run out and MGA had no standing to make the claims.
