Offshore Oil Workers Take Foreign Hires Case To High Court

Law360, New York (March 1, 2012, 7:00 PM EST) -- A group of oil and gas workers asked the U.S. Supreme Court last month to hear its putative class action alleging offshore energy companies illegally hired foreign workers in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act, saying lower courts had wrongly dismissed its claims.

In their petition filed Feb. 21, the workers reject the Fifth Circuit's Nov. 23 finding that Offshore Specialty Fabricators Inc., Horizon Offshore Inc. and other companies operated free-floating vessels outside the jurisdiction of the immigration law and possessed valid exemptions from the...
