Calif.'s Deregulation Of Unlisted Phone Fees Upheld

Law360, San Diego (March 7, 2012, 5:51 PM EST) -- A California appeals court on Tuesday backed the state’s move to deregulate rates for unlisted landline phone numbers, affirming the dismissal of a putative class action accusing AT&T Communications of California Inc. of grossly overcharging customers and violating their privacy rights.

In a 2-1 decision, the majority declined to revive an action brought by AT&T California customers and held that the lower court did not abuse its discretion by abstaining from ruling on whether service fees were too high and should be regulated since the court...
