Ill. Agencies Faulted Over $7B In Health Care Contracts

Law360, New York (March 8, 2012, 2:02 PM EST) -- Illinois health officials improperly gave $7 billion in health care contracts for state employees to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Coventry Health Care and HealthLink Inc. and a state ethics commission failed to properly vet the deals, a state auditor said Wednesday.

The state’s Department of Healthcare and Family Services awarded a $6.6 billion contract in April to Blue Cross to administer health care plans for state employees, as well as contracts worth $379 million to Coventry and Health to administer self-insured open access plans....
