Sony Venture, Ellington Heirs Settle Royalties Row

Law360, New York (March 16, 2012, 4:12 PM EDT) -- A joint venture between Sony Corp. and trusts formed by Michael Jackson has settled a dispute with heirs of jazz musician Duke Ellington over a royalties contract it bought from a music publishing affiliate of Viacom Inc., both sides indicated Thursday.

The parties filed a stipulation of discontinuance Thursday in the wake of a New York state appeals court decision last year that found Viacom's 2007 sale of music publishing affiliate Famous Music Corp. to a Sony Corp. joint venture didn't cancel a Famous Music royalties...
