Judge Denies Class For Female Guards In Harassment Case

Law360, New York (March 20, 2012, 6:51 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday criticized the efforts of and denied certification to a group of female California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation employees attempting to earn class certification in a suit alleging the department did not take appropriate steps to halt sexual harassment by male inmates.

U.S. District Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton argued that it would be impossible to grant class certification because the plaintiffs' complaint, which accuses the department and its administrative officials of violating several civil rights statutes, and its moving papers...
