NFL Suspends Saints Coach Amid Scrutiny Over Safety

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 7:37 PM EDT) -- The National Football League on Wednesday suspended the New Orleans Saints' head coach over a program that rewarded players for knocking out their opponents, handing out the punishment amid pressure to ensure players' safety following a wave of lawsuits over head injuries.

In addition to suspending head coach Sean Payton, the NFL is fining the team $500,000, forcing it to forfeit selections in the second round of 2012 and 2013 drafts and sanctioning other individuals connected to the team, including a former player.
