MPAA Says Megaupload Users Won't Face Suits

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 8:50 PM EDT) -- The Motion Picture Association of America on Wednesday denied reports that movie studios planned to sue millions of individual Megaupload Ltd. users for copyright infringement, a fear that arose after the association moved to preserve the file hosting service's data for possible suits against website operators.

Howard Gantman, vice president of MPAA’s corporate communications, said Wednesday that reports the MPAA was "mulling" the possibility of suing individual users of Megaupload, which was indicted on charges of criminal copyright infringement in January, were incorrect.
