GAO Urges DOD To Better Track Number Of Contractors

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 8:41 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense should revise agency guidelines so it can better track how many contractors are helping to command its programs and operations, the Government Accountability Office advised Wednesday.

The GAO released a report examining the DOD's progress in reducing excess overhead costs. The agency has pinpointed several areas in which it would benefit from consolidation or the elimination of overlaps, but it needs to improve the quality of the headquarters-related information it has at its disposal, the GAO said.
