Media Tweets Not Enough To Win Stanford New Trial

Law360, New York (March 22, 2012, 7:12 PM EDT) -- Disgraced Texas tycoon R. Allen Stanford, who was convicted earlier this month of running a $7 billion Ponzi scheme, lost his bid for a new trial Thursday after arguing that reporters tweeting about his case may have turned jurors against him.

U.S. District Judge Judge David Hittner, who oversaw Stanford's trial, denied his request for a retrial without explanation in a one-sentence order.
