DOJ's Tax Lien Bid-Rigging Probe Nets 6th Guilty Plea

Law360, New York (March 27, 2012, 6:24 PM EDT) -- A financial investor on Tuesday became the sixth individual to plead guilty in New Jersey to conspiring to rig municipal tax lien auctions and has agreed to cooperate with the U.S. Department of Justice’s ongoing investigation.

Robert E. Rothman of New York admitted to participating in a scheme to rig bids at auctions for the sale of municipal tax liens between 2000 and 2009 in New Jersey, in which investors agreed not to bid against each other.
