Megaupload Faces 1st Civil Copyright Suit Since Shutdown

Law360, New York (March 27, 2012, 5:34 PM EDT) -- Entertainment companies Microhits Inc. and Valcom Inc. last week accused of reproducing and distributing their copyrighted songs and movies, hitting the alleged pirate site with its first civil suit since the FBI shut it down in January.

The suit — which also names Megaupload principals Kim Dotcom and Mathias Ortmann, along with Dotcom’s Hong Kong-based company Vestor Ltd. — claims that from September 2005 through January 2012, the defendants violated several of the entertainment companies' copyrights through's operations.
