UMG, Rapper Duck Ex-Drug Kingpin's Name-Rights Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (March 29, 2012, 3:40 PM EDT) -- A California state judge on Thursday tossed a lawsuit accusing rapper Rick Ross, UMG Recordings Inc. and others of misappropriating the name and identity of former drug kingpin "Freeway" Ricky Ross, ruling that the statute of limitations had expired.

Judge Rita Miller said the former drug trafficker's claims were barred by the two-year statute of limitations under California's single publication rule and the doctrine of laches.
