'Glory' Director Takes Stand In 'Last Samurai' Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (April 3, 2012, 9:53 PM EDT) -- “Glory” director Edward Zwick took the stand Tuesday in a trial alleging he stole the idea for “The Last Samurai” from two screenwriting brothers, telling jurors the project actually started with an unrelated script about a civil war veteran’s cattle drive in feudal Japan.

Zwick told jurors in the California federal lawsuit that after he stopped developing the script for “West of the Rising Sun” in favor of collaborating on another feudal Japan-era story with “Gladiator” writer John Logan in 2000, he kept the production company...
