Reliant Escapes Blame For Subsidiary

Law360, New York (August 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Reliant Energy Inc. has navigated its way out of the multidistrict litigation accusing a number of energy companies of raising and fixing prices for natural gas in western states, with a district court ruling it may not be held liable for the actions of Reliant Energy Services Inc., a subsidiary.

Judge Philip M. Pro in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas granted REI's motion to dismiss the charges in an amended complaint Wednesday, saying the court lacked personal jurisdiction.
