Verizon Faces Class Action Over Purported DSL Speeds

Law360, New York (April 9, 2012, 7:20 PM EDT) -- An aggrieved Internet consumer lodged a putative class action against Verizon Communications Inc. in California state court Thursday accusing the telecommunications giant of falsely advertising DSL performance at speeds almost twice as high as the company's technology allows.

Even though she barely lived two miles from the Internet distribution point, plaintiff Patricia Allen claimed Verizon told her she was too far away to receive the advertised speed of 1.5 megabits per second and was limited to 768 kilobits per second instead, according to the complaint....
