Obama Won't Order Ban On Anti-Gay Bias By Contractors

Law360, New York (April 12, 2012, 4:14 PM EDT) -- Despite calls for an executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating against employees based on sexual orientation or gender identity, the White House said Thursday that the president prefers to support a legislative approach that has stalled in Congress.

More than 70 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives urged President Barack Obama in an April 3 letter to adopt an executive order explicitly prohibiting federal contractors from such discrimination, and gay rights advocacy groups that have generally supported the president also pushed for the rule....
