Maddow Says $50M Defamation Suit Stifles Free Speech

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 3:27 PM EDT) -- NBCUniversal Inc. asked a Washington federal court on Monday to toss a Christian political activist's $50 million defamation lawsuit accusing MSNBC host Rachel Maddow of portraying him as an advocate of violence against homosexuals, saying the lawsuit seeks to limit free speech.

NBC, MSNBC and Maddow said in a motion to dismiss that Bradlee Dean's suit falls under the protection of the District of Columbia's anti-Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation statute, which supports the dismissal of the activist's allegations of defamation.
