Judge Taps Mediator In Nortel Worker Benefits Dispute

Law360, Wilmington (April 18, 2012, 7:15 PM EDT) -- A Delaware bankruptcy judge on Wednesday appointed a mediator to break the standoff over Nortel Networks Inc.'s bid to terminate benefits for its retirees and disabled employees, one of the few issues holding up the defunct telecom’s $9 billion liquidation.

At a court hearing in Wilmington, Del., U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Kevin Gross appointed Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP’s Richard Levin as the mediator, a choice agreed to by Nortel and the two committees representing 3300 retirees and 240 disabled employees receiving benefits.
