Humane Society Sues Pork Council Over Pig Treatment Claims

Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 8:29 PM EDT) -- The Humane Society on Wednesday hit the National Pork Producers Council with a lawsuit accusing it of falsely advertising its treatment of its animals as “humane,” in violation of the Federal Trade Commission Act.

The group claims the pork industry’s public descriptions of its We Care Initiative and Pork Quality Assurance Plus program are overrun with numerous false claims regarding the welfare of pigs.
