US Airways Strikes Deal With AMR Unions In Merger Ploy

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 1:13 PM EDT) -- US Airways Group Inc. said Friday it had reached tentative collective bargaining deals with American Airlines Inc.’s disgruntled labor unions — foreshadowing a possible merger with the bankrupt carrier.

The announcement comes as American Airlines parent AMR Corp., mired in Chapter 11 since November, has failed to reach an agreement with its three top unions to dramatically slash labor costs. The unions — the Allied Pilots Association, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants and the Transport Workers Union of America — represent nearly 55,000 American Airlines...
