Texas Firefighters, Cops Denied Rehearing In $1B Pay Suit

Law360, New York (April 26, 2012, 7:47 PM EDT) -- The Texas Supreme Court declined April 20 to reconsider a ruling that certain class action claims brought by Dallas firefighters and police officers seeking over $1 billion in back pay under their employment contracts and a city ordinance are blocked by governmental immunity.

Texas' highest court ruled in December that the public safety workers can't ask for a declaratory judgment that they weren't paid in accordance with a 1979 ordinance that they argued guaranteed raises for rank-and-file emergency workers when higher-ranking officials in their departments received...
