Iraq Contract Schemers' Appeal Chances Help Win Bail

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 1:41 PM EDT) -- An Alabama federal judge on Friday granted bail to a former U.S. Army major and his wife who were convicted of taking bribes in exchange for steering contracts in Iraq, saying they raised questions likely to result in a reversal or a new trial.

In motions requesting bail, Eddie and Eurica Pressley argued they were victims of prosecutorial misconduct through improper opening statements and closing arguments that were calculated to make the jury biased against them.
