Shell Unit, Employees Reach $11M Deal In Meal Break Suit

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 4:21 PM EDT) -- A unit of Royal Dutch Shell PLC agreed to pay $11 million Friday to shift workers at five California refineries who claimed the company failed to provide off-duty meal periods and separation pay in violation of state laws.

Equilon Enterprises LLC's $9.5 million settlement fund will cover all payment obligations under the settlement other than attorneys’ fees and costs, and will compensate the workers for more than 50 percent of their meal break back pay claims, according to an unopposed motion for settlement approval filed by...
