$310M Bratz Award Against Mattel Is Fair, 9th Circ. Hears

Law360, New York (April 30, 2012, 4:32 PM EDT) -- Toy maker MGA Entertainment Inc. on Friday urged the Ninth Circuit to uphold $310 million in damages granted in its dispute with Mattel Inc. over the rights to Bratz dolls, saying the award was fair compensation for years of “specious” litigation.

MGA said that even the generous award in favor of MGA's trade secret and copyright infringement claims couldn't make up for the damage done by an eight-year legal assault launched by Mattel to try to secure the rights to the popular line of Bratz dolls,...
