State Dept. Cuts Down On Security Contractor Force In Iraq

Law360, New York (May 1, 2012, 8:46 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of State is taking steps to reduce its reliance on private security contractors in Iraq as part of its efforts to "right-size" its operations there, but the agency still undercounts its contractor workforce, a government watchdog said Monday.

In its latest quarterly report, the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction said that the number of personnel supporting the U.S. mission in Iraq had declined this quarter from almost 14,000 to 12,755 — 89 percent of whom are contractors. The State Department reported that...
