Sens. Join FTC, Commerce In Push For Privacy Legislation

Law360, New York (May 9, 2012, 8:45 PM EDT) -- A pair of Democratic senators pledged at a hearing Wednesday to continue to push forward with broad online privacy legislation backed by the Obama administration and the Federal Trade Commission, despite opposition from a Republican senator and the newest FTC commissioner.

Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., during a committee hearing called on his colleagues take up “strong consumer-focused” privacy legislation this year, expressing doubts about the industry's ability to adequately protect consumers' data absent a legislative mandate.
