Judge OKs Calif. Class In Ikea ZIP Code Collection Suit

Law360, New York (May 8, 2012, 1:50 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Friday agreed to certify a statewide class in a data collection suit against Ikea USA West Inc., ruling that the group can include more than 1 million customers whose ZIP codes were collected by the company.

Lead plaintiffs Reid Yeoman and Rita Medellin accused Ikea of violating the state's Song-Beverly Credit Card Act by requesting that credit card holders provide personal information, including ZIP codes, which was then stored in the company's computer system. The two consumers asked the court to...
