Internet Marketer Settles Facebook 'Likejacking' Case

Law360, New York (May 10, 2012, 8:13 PM EDT) -- Internet marketer Adscend Media LLC on Monday settled for $100,000 a potentially $20 million lawsuit by the state of Washington over alleged “likejacking” schemes in which Facebook users were tricked into visiting sites that paid the company for referral traffic.

In addition to the $100,000, which is to cover the state's attorneys' fees, Adscend agreed to not violate the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, also known as the CAN-SPAM Act.
