U Of Ill. FOIA Suit Belongs In State Court, 7th Circ. Says

Law360, Chicago (May 25, 2012, 7:40 PM EDT) -- The Seventh Circuit ruled Thursday that state court is the proper venue for the Tribune Co.'s attempt to force the University of Illinois to reply to its state Freedom of Information Act request regarding the school's admissions scandal, a request the school argues is barred by federal privacy law.

Finding that the Tribune's claim to the documents arises under state and not federal law, the appeals court ordered the remand and dismissal of the suit in which the university had argued that, as a public university...
