Congress Sinks Biofuel's Hopes For US Military Boost
By Dietrich Knauth (May 31, 2012, 7:53 PM EDT) -- Both the U.S. House of Representatives and a key Senate committee have legislatively blocked the U.S. Department of Defense from purchasing greener fuels for military vehicles, disrupting a planned military investment in biofuel that had the potential to jump-start the industry.
The 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House of Representatives on May 18, would prevent the DOD from using 2013 funds to purchase alternative fuels for vehicles that cost more than conventional fuel.
