Cellini Loses Acquittal Bid In Extortion Case

Law360, New York (May 31, 2012, 9:12 PM EDT) -- An Illinois federal judge on Thursday denied convicted real estate investor William Cellini's bid for an acquittal on his bribery and extortion charges after he argued that “speculative” evidence allowed in the prosecution's case against him had deprived him of his constitutional rights in the trial.

U.S. District Judge James B. Zagel had denied the bid at a hearing on the motion, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois confirmed Thursday. A spokesman for the office declined to comment on the decision, and...
