Judge Shoots Down Cadwalader's NWA Bonus Request

Law360, New York (September 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A bankruptcy judge on Tuesday denied Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft LLP's request for end-of-case bonuses, blocking the firm from collecting $3.5 million in the Chapter 11 case of Northwest Airlines Corp.

Bankruptcy Court Judge Allan Gropper contended that Cadwalader's average rates of $500 an hour had already provided the firm with adequate compensation. Attorneys should only receive fee enhancements if their work had obtained an unexpected positive result.
