DOD Weapons Upkeep Contract Oversight Lacking, GAO Says

Law360, New York (June 1, 2012, 1:36 PM EDT) -- Neither the U.S. Department of Defense nor any individual military branch knows the extent to which its weapons system programs rely on long-term maintenance contracts, which hinders the DOD in improving its acquisition abilities, a report said Thursday.

DOD policy requires the Pentagon and its military branches to approve acquisition strategies and life cycle sustainment plans, which include information on contract support.
