NY Lawmakers Seek Help In Push To Legalize Sports Betting

Law360, New York (June 7, 2012, 3:42 PM EDT) -- New York Democrats pushing for a state constitutional amendment to legalize sports gambling on Thursday said the move would whack $38 billion a year from organized crime but warned that the effort requires federal coordination and help from the state's attorney general.

Sen. Tony Avella and Assemblyman David I. Weprin, both from Queens, want to add sports betting to the Empire State's list of approved gambling activities — a list that already includes lotteries, bingo and horse race wagers.
