Top Fitzgerald Deputy Named US Attorney In Chicago

Law360, New York (June 25, 2012, 3:09 PM EDT) -- Gary S. Shapiro will replace Patrick Fitzgerald as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday, one month after Fitzgerald said he would step down as Chicago’s top prosecutor.

Shapiro, 65, will serve as interim replacement until a permanent successor is found, the DOJ said. He has served for the last 14 years as first assistant U.S. attorney, the top deputy in the office.
